The global power industry noticed a 4.8% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by Siemens 12.8% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.1% when compared with August 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for an 8.91% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, up 0.27% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 5.29% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 11.97% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 41.51% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in September 2022, a 14.43% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.92% in September 2022, up 18.27% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 16.56% share in September 2022, a growth of 2% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.64% share in September 2022 and a rise of 12.5% over August 2022.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 19.74% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
Siemens posted 433 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 15.16% over the previous month, followed by Sunrun with 160 jobs and a 14.29% growth. Duquesne Light with 140 IT jobs and Stem with 135 jobs, recorded a 32.08% growth and a 141.07% rise, respectively, while NextEra Energy recorded a 15.82% drop with 133 job postings during September 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 56.42% share, which marked an 11.58% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 29.39%, registering a 14.25% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 12.45% share and a 3.95% rise over August 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.01% and a month-on-month drop of 22.73%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.74%, registering a 4.17% increase over the previous month.
