The global power industry noticed a 5.8% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Companhia de Transmissao de Energia Eletrica Paulista’s 13.3% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity increased 4.15% when compared with August 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 10.01% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, up 0.35% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 4.78% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 13.64% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 53.37% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in September 2021, a 4.27% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 14.78% in September 2021, up 2.57% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.78% share in September 2021, a growth of 17.35% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.52% share in September 2021 and a rise of 2.64% over August 2021.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 6.01% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Companhia de Transmissao de Energia Eletrica Paulista posted 359 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 7.49% over the previous month, followed by Siemens with 342 jobs and a 26.13% decline. NextEra Energy with 252 IT jobs and Schneider Electric with 130 jobs, recorded a 73.79% growth and a 1.56% rise, respectively, while Umicore recorded a 120% rise with 99 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 50.63% share, which marked a 3.95% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 26.59%, registering a 14.33% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 14.85% share and a 3.37% drop over August 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 7.07% and a month-on-month drop of 22.04%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.48%, registering a 30% increase over the previous month.
