The UK’s power industry registered a 9.6% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 6.12% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.

Out of the power industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 9.49% share in October 2022, recording a decrease of 0.95% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s power industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 96.53% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s power industry in October 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 35.42% in October 2022, registering a 19.05% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 25% share, a decrease of 46.27% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 15.97%, registering a 91.67% rise from September 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 11.81%, up 21.43% over the previous month.

Top five power companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 7.14% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s power industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

National Grid posted 36 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Siemens with 12 jobs and a 9.09% growth. Schneider Electric with 11 IT jobs and SSE with 11 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 70.27% decrease, respectively, while Ovo Energy recorded a flat growth with 8 job postings during October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 68.06%, down by 21.6% from September 2022. Entry Level positions with a 15.97% share, registered an increase of 76.92% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 15.28% share, down 33.33% over September 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.69%, recording a month-on-month decline of 50%.
