UK power industry IT recruitment activity rises 28.7% in January 2022

The UK’s power industry registered a 28.7% rise in IT hiring activity in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.47% in January 2022 when compared with December 2022.

Out of the power industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 11.43% share in January 2022, recording an increase of 1.95% over the last three-month average share.


Top five job classifications in the UK’s power industry’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.03% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s power industry in January 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 64.47% in January 2022, registering a 172.22% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 13.82% share, an increase of 162.5% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 10.53%, registering a 60% rise from December 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 5.26%, up 700% over the previous month.


Top five power companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 209.68% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s power industry during January 2022 over December 2022.

Octopus Energy posted 36 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Siemens with 23 jobs and a 27.78% growth. National Grid with 20 IT jobs and Centrica with 9 jobs, recorded a 400% growth and a 12.5% growth, respectively, while United Utilities Group recorded an increase of 700% with 8 job postings during January 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.74%, up by 202.86% from December 2022. Mid Level positions with a 14.47% share, registered an increase of 69.23% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 13.82% share, up 40% over December 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 1.97%, recording a month-on-month increase of 50%.
