The project was developed by Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy and Office National de l’Electricite et de l’Eau Potable. The project is currently owned by Office National de l’Electricite et de l’Eau Potable.

Afourer is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 1.3 million cubic meter. The project generated 415.3 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $220m.
