The ministry is responsible for generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Iraq. MEI classifies its operations into DG of production, DG of transmission, DG of distribution and DG of projects. The ministry is also responsible for operation maintenance and control; training and development; and importing electricity from neighboring countries such as Syria, Turkey and Iran. It imports electricity from these countries to meet Iraq’s excess electricity demand.
