The Apple Battery Energy Storage System is a 60,000kW energy storage project located in Monterey County, California, US. The rated storage capacity of the project is 240,000kWh.
The electro-chemical battery energy storage project uses lithium-ion as its storage technology. The project was announced in 2021.
Tesla is the technology provider for the project.
Apple is building a 60 MW, 240 MWh battery-based renewable energy storage facility near the California Flats solar installation in southeastern Monterey County. Tesla will supply up to 85 of its Megapack battery units for the project. Construction of the energy storage system includes an interconnection to an existing 230 kV circuit and a 34.5kV feeder complete with fiber optic cable between the substation and the storage system.
