Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts activity down 33% in Q1 2022

There were 51 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2022, marking a drop of 33% over the last four-quarter average of 76, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2022 with 120 contracts and a 37.2% share, followed by T&D Project with 64 contracts and a 19.8% share and Generation Equipment with 60 contracts and an 18.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was:Power Purchase Agreement with 51 contracts and a 100% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in Q1 2022

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 41 contracts with a 70.7% share, followed by wind with 15 contracts and a 25.9% share and hydro with one contract and a 1.7% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (India): 1,785MW from one contract
  2. Eastern Power Distribution Co of Andhra Pradesh (India) and Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh (India): 625MW from one contract
  3. Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 490MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,275MW from two contracts
  2. Sembcorp India (India): 625MW from one contract
  3. Azure Power Global (India): 300MW capacity from one contract.
