Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts activity up 4% in September 2021

There were 25 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in September 2021, marking a rise of 4% over the last 12-month average of 24, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in September 2021 with 34 contracts and a 35.4% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 25 contracts and a 26% share and Generation Equipment with 24 contracts and a 25% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 17 contracts and a 68% share
  2. Project Implementation: five contracts and a 20% share
  3. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 12% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in September 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 14 contracts with a 56% share, followed by wind with nine contracts and a 36% share and nuclear with one contract and a 4% share.

Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in September 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,440MW from ten contracts
  2. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution (India): 1,000MW from one contract
  3. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 250MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,000MW from one contract
  2. Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen (India) and JSW Renew Energy (India): 450MW from one contract
  3. Adani Green Energy (India), Ayana Renewable Power (India) and ReNew Power (India): 300MW capacity from one contract.
