Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts activity up 45% in Q3 2021

There were 94 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2021, marking a rise of 45% over the last four-quarter average of 65, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2021 with 135 contracts and a 34.6% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 94 contracts and a 24.1% share and Generation Equipment with 84 contracts and a 21.5% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 72 contracts and a 76.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: 12 contracts and a 12.8% share
  3. Electricity Supply: ten contracts and a 10.6% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in Q3 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 68 contracts with a 66% share, followed by wind with 24 contracts and a 23.3% share and thermal with four contracts and a 3.9% share.

Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 4,310MW from 16 contracts
  2. Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 1,200MW from one contract
  3. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution (India): 1,000MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,350.64MW from five contracts

  3. Ayana Renewable Power (India): 750MW capacity from two contracts.
