North America power industry tenders in August 2021: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in August 2021 with 203 tenders and a share of 86.8%, up 12.4% over the previous month and up 10% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 31 tenders and a share of 13.2%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 184 tenders, followed by Canada with 43.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in August 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 105 tenders and an 80.8% share, followed by solar with 20 tenders and a 15.4% share and hydro with four tenders and a 3.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in August 2021, with 106 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (86) and Power Plant (18).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 161 tenders and a 68.8% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 50 tenders and a 21.4% share
  3. Project Implementation: 16 tenders and a 6.8% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: four tenders and a 1.7% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 0.9% share
  6. Others: one tender and a 0.4% share.

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. The City of Calgary (Canada): 1.3MW from one tender
  2. U.S. Social Security Administration: 1.09MW from one tender
  3. Divert NS: 0.11MW capacity from one tender.
