Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts activity up 63% in February 2021

There were 26 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in February 2021, marking a rise of 63% over the last 12-month average of 16, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in February 2021 with 36 contracts and a 33% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 26 contracts and a 23.9% share and Generation Equipment with 24 contracts and a 22% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 24 contracts and a 92.3% share
  2. Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 7.7% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in February 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 23 contracts with an 85.2% share, followed by thermal with two contracts and a 7.4% share and wind with one contract and a 3.7% share.

Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in February 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Manila Electric (Philippines): 1,800MW from two contracts
  2. Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh Power (India): 100MW from one contract
  3. Vietnam Electricity (Vietnam): 23.2MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. San Miguel (Philippines): 1,200MW from one contract
  2. Masinloc Power Partners (Philippines): 600MW from one contract
  3. Shapoorji Pallonji & Co Pvt (India) and Adani Green Energy (India): 100MW capacity from one contract.
