Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts activity down 18% in Q3 2021

There were 84 generation equipment contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2021, marking a drop of 18% over the last four-quarter average of 102, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2021 with 135 contracts and a 34.6% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 94 contracts and a 24.1% share and Generation Equipment with 84 contracts and a 21.5% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 69 contracts and an 82.1% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 11 contracts and a 13.1% share
  3. Project Implementation: three contracts and a 3.6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 1.2% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts in Q3 2021

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 29 contracts with a 35.4% share, followed by wind with 19 contracts and a 23.2% share and thermal with 18 contracts and a 22% share.

The top issuers of generation equipment contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Sun Ba Power (Taiwan): 1,100MW from one contract
  2. Hanil Hyundai Cement (South Korea): 22.6MW from one contract
  3. Antony Lara Renewable Energy (India): 14MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. CTCI (Taiwan) and Siemens Energy (Germany): 1,100MW from one contract
  2. Kawasaki Heavy Industries (Japan): 22.6MW from one contract
  3. Hitachi Zosen India (India) and ISGEC Heavy Engineering (India): 14MW capacity from one contract.
