Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts activity down 19% in Q3 2019

There were 57 generation equipment contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2019, marking a drop of 19% over the last 12-month average of 70, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2019 with 62 contracts and a 32.8% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 57 contracts and a 30.2% share and Electricity Procurement with 42 contracts and a 22.2% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 46 contracts and an 80.7% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 10.5% share
  3. Project Implementation: five contracts and an 8.8% share.

Thermal is top technology for Asia-Pacific generation equipment contracts in Q3 2019

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, thermal accounted for 26 contracts with a 45.6% share, followed by wind with 11 contracts and a 19.3% share and solar with nine contracts and a 15.8% share.

The top issuers of generation equipment contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. JERA (Japan ) and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy (Japan ): 2,340MW from one contract
  2. Van Phong Power: 1,320MW from one contract
  3. Electricite Du Cambodge (Cambodia): 200MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Toshiba Plant Systems & Services (Japan ) and Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Japan ): 2,340MW from one contract
  2. Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Japan ), CTCI (Taiwan ), Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (South Korea) and IHI (Japan ): 1,320MW capacity from one contract.
  3. China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (China): 200MW capacity from one contract.
