Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in August 2020: India leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, India led the activity in August 2020 with 26 contracts and a share of 27.1%, up 7.6% over the previous month and up 44% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Japan with 14 contracts and a share of 14.6% and Australia with 14 contracts and a share of 14.6% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 18 contracts, followed by China with 13 and Australia with seven contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in August 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 34 contracts and a 39.5% share, followed by solar with 31 contracts and a 36% share and hydro with ten contracts and an 11.6% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in August 2020, with 31 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (29) and Electricity Procurement (21).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 33 contracts and a 34.4% share
- Project Implementation: 29 contracts and a 30.2% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 18 contracts and an 18.8% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: eight contracts and an 8.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 5.2% share
- Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 3.1% share.
Power contracts in August 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (Afghanistan): 3,000MW from one contract
- NTPC (India): 1,170MW from four contracts
- Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 1,050MW capacity from eight contracts.
Power contracts in August 2020: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (China): 4,000MW from two contracts
- PAL four Solar Energy L (United Arab Emirates): 3,000MW from one contract
- NHPC (India): 1,300MW capacity from two contracts.
