Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in January 2020: India leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, India led the activity in January 2020 with 16 contracts and a share of 30.8%, up 1.8% over the previous month and down 33% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by China with 14 contracts and a share of 26.9% and Japan with four contracts and a share of 7.7% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 24 contracts, followed by China with nine and Australia with seven contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in January 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 24 contracts and a 50% share, followed by biopower with eight contracts and a 16.7% share and wind with eight contracts and a 16.7% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in January 2020, with 25 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (16) and Generation Equipment (10).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 20 contracts and a 38.5% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 15 contracts and a 28.8% share
- Supply & Erection: 14 contracts and a 26.9% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 3.8% share
- Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.9% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Telangana Southern Power Distribution (India): 400MW from one contract
- NTPC (India): 250MW from one contract
- Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 202.6MW capacity from four contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 545MW from two contracts
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 400MW from one contract
- Tata Power Solar Systems (India): 250MW capacity from one contract.
