Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in March 2021: Malaysia leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Malaysia led the activity in March 2021 with 32 contracts and a share of 29.4%, up 25.7% over the previous month and up 700% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by India with 24 contracts and a share of 22% and China with 14 contracts and a share of 12.8% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, China held the top spot with 21 contracts, followed by India with 18 and Australia with 11 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in March 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 74 contracts and a 70.5% share, followed by wind with 19 contracts and an 18.1% share and thermal with eight contracts and a 7.6% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in March 2021, with 65 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (28) and Electricity Procurement (23).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 58 contracts and a 53.2% share
- Supply & Erection: 26 contracts and a 23.9% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 11 contracts and a 10.1% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: eight contracts and a 7.3% share
- Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 2.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.8% share.
Power contracts in March 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Thailand): 1,700MW from one contract
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW from four contracts
- Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Malaysia): 823.06MW capacity from 30 contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Korea Gas (South Korea), Korea Western Power (South Korea) and TPI Polene Power (Thailand): 1,700MW from one contract
- JSW Energy (India): 450MW from one contract
- Adani Green Energy (India), Ayana Renewable Power Pvt (India) and China Gezhouba Group (China): 300MW capacity from one contract.
