Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in Q4 2020: China leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, China led the activity in Q4 2020 with 53 contracts and a share of 20.3%, up 2% over the previous quarter and up 6% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Australia with 45 contracts and a share of 17.2% and India with 26 contracts and a share of 10% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 56 contracts, followed by China with 50 and Australia with 25 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q4 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 114 contracts and a 45.6% share, followed by wind with 63 contracts and a 25.2% share and thermal with 35 contracts and a 14% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power contracts activity during Q4 2020, with 110 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (100) and Electricity Procurement (37).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 101 contracts and a 38.7% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 96 contracts and a 36.8% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 36 contracts and a 13.8% share
