Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in September 2019: India leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, India led the activity in September 2019 with 15 contracts and a share of 37.5%, up 5.8% over the previous month and down 52% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the Philippines with four contracts and a share of 10% and Australia with three contracts and a share of 7.5% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 31 contracts, followed by Australia with 11 and China with eight contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in September 2019

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 16 contracts and a 45.7% share, followed by thermal with ten contracts and a 28.6% share and wind with three contracts and an 8.6% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in September 2019, with 16 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (11) and Electricity Procurement (9).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 15 contracts and a 37.5% share
  2. Supply & Erection: ten contracts and a 25% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 15% share
  4. Electricity Supply: six contracts and a 15% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: three contracts and a 7.5% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Manila Electric (Philippines): 1,200MW from three contracts
  2. Government of Himachal Pradesh (India): 770MW from three contracts
  3. Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 680MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 930MW from three contracts
  2. NTPC (India): 520MW from one contract
  3. China Gezhouba Group International Engineering (China): 500MW capacity from two contracts.
