Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in February 2020: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in February 2020 with 284 tenders and a share of 56.2%, down 2.4% over the previous month and down 15% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the Philippines with 117 tenders and a share of 23.2% and Bangladesh with 61 tenders and a share of 12.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 335 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 89 and the Philippines with 87 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in February 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 82 tenders and a 52.9% share, followed by solar with 63 tenders and a 40.6% share and hydro with seven tenders and a 4.5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in February 2020, with 262 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (103) and Generation Equipment (79).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 272 tenders and a 53.9% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 148 tenders and a 29.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 76 tenders and a 15% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 1% share
  5. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 0.4% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 0.4% share.

Power tenders in February 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Ministry of Energy, Uzbekistan: 2,100MW from three tenders
  2. JSC National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan: 1,900MW from two tenders
  3. NTPC (India): 1,800.65MW capacity from three tenders.
