Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in June 2020: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in June 2020 with 301 tenders and a share of 71.3%, up 6.2% over the previous month and down 6% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Bangladesh with 34 tenders and a share of 8.1% and the Philippines with 25 tenders and a share of 5.9% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 320 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 85 and the Philippines with 80 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in June 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 84 tenders and a 68.9% share, followed by thermal with 29 tenders and a 23.8% share and hydro with six tenders and a 4.9% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in June 2020, with 179 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (126) and Power Plant (79).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 194 tenders and a 46% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 127 tenders and a 30.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 95 tenders and a 22.5% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: four tenders and a 0.9% share
  5. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 0.5% share.

Power tenders in June 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Railway Energy Management (India): 1,400MW from two tenders
  2. The Tata Power (India): 225MW from one tender
  3. West Bengal State Electricity Distribution (India): 125MW capacity from one tender.
