Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in October 2019: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in October 2019 with 316 tenders and a share of 54.1%, down 2.6% over the previous month and down 1% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the Philippines with 99 tenders and a share of 17% and Bangladesh with 68 tenders and a share of 11.6% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 320 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 101 and the Philippines with 82 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in October 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 87 tenders and a 51.8% share, followed by solar with 63 tenders and a 37.5% share and hydro with 16 tenders and a 9.5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in October 2019, with 302 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (113) and Generation Equipment (99).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 300 tenders and a 51.4% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 195 tenders and a 33.4% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 78 tenders and a 13.4% share

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. NTPC (India): 1,090.29MW from two tenders
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 600MW from two tenders
  3. Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments (India), Rajasthan Renewable Energy (India), Bharat Heavy Electricals (India) and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 50MW capacity from one tender.
