Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in October 2020: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in October 2020 with 219 tenders and a share of 66.8%, up 5.9% over the previous month and down 26% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Nepal with 29 tenders and a share of 8.8% and Pakistan with 22 tenders and a share of 6.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 296 tenders, followed by the Philippines with 61 and Bangladesh with 55 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in October 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 93 tenders and a 68.4% share, followed by thermal with 27 tenders and a 19.9% share and hydro with nine tenders and a 6.6% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in October 2020, with 115 tenders, followed by T&D Project (98) and Power Plant (90).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 125 tenders and a 38.1% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 110 tenders and a 33.5% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 72 tenders and a 22% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 tenders and a 5.8% share
  5. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.3% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 0.3% share.

Power tenders in October 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (India): 250MW from one tender
  2. NHPC (India): 165MW from two tenders
  3. Oil India (India) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (India): 100MW capacity from one tender.
