Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in Q1 2020: India leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in Q1 2020 with 799 tenders and a share of 55.2%, down 2.9% over the previous quarter and down 22% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by the Philippines with 272 tenders and a share of 18.8% and Bangladesh with 228 tenders and a share of 15.7% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 1,030 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 279 and the Philippines with 262 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in Q1 2020
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 196 tenders and a 47% share, followed by solar with 190 tenders and a 45.6% share and hydro with 19 tenders and a 4.6% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power tenders activity during Q1 2020, with 737 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (335) and Power Plant (193).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 766 tenders and a 52.9% share
- Supply & Erection: 431 tenders and a 29.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 224 tenders and a 15.5% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 17 tenders and a 1.2% share
- Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 0.4% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 0.3% share.
Power tenders in Q1 2020: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 11,484MW from nine tenders
- Ministry of Economic Affairs (Taiwan) (Taiwan): 10,000MW from one tender
- Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 3,700MW capacity from four tenders.
