Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in Q1 2021: India leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in Q1 2021 with 164 tenders and a share of 35.3%, down 24.7% over the previous quarter and down 79% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Pakistan with 84 tenders and a share of 18.1% and Bangladesh with 45 tenders and a share of 9.7% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 763 tenders, followed by the Philippines with 128 and Bangladesh with 127 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q1 2021
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 132 tenders and a 70.2% share, followed by thermal with 35 tenders and an 18.6% share and hydro with nine tenders and a 4.8% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power tenders activity during Q1 2021, with 152 tenders, followed by Power Plant (129) and T&D Project (126).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 204 tenders and a 43.9% share
- Supply & Erection: 159 tenders and a 34.2% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 83 tenders and a 17.8% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 16 tenders and a 3.4% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 0.4% share
- Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.2% share.
Power tenders in Q1 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:
- Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (India) and Telecommunications Consultants India (India): 5,000MW from one tender
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,960MW from four tenders
- Solar Energy Corporation of India: 1,785MW capacity from one tender.
