Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in Q2 2021: Pakistan leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Pakistan led the activity in Q2 2021 with 116 tenders and a share of 24.3%, up 6.1% over the previous quarter and up 25% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by India with 85 tenders and a share of 17.8% and the Philippines with 70 tenders and a share of 14.7% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 596 tenders, followed by Pakistan with 93 and Bangladesh with 74 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q2 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 132 tenders and a 53.7% share, followed by thermal with 84 tenders and a 34.1% share and hydro with 15 tenders and a 6.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power tenders activity during Q2 2021, with 167 tenders, followed by Power Plant (126) and T&D Project (91).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 190 tenders and a 39.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: 187 tenders and a 39.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 72 tenders and a 15.1% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 14 tenders and a 2.9% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: seven tenders and a 1.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: five tenders and a 1% share

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,600MW from three tenders
  2. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 2,800MW from 32 tenders
  3. Gujarat Industries Power (India): 2,375MW capacity from one tender.
