Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in Q3 2020: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in Q3 2020 with 722 tenders and a share of 61.1%, down 6.5% over the previous quarter and down 24% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Pakistan with 117 tenders and a share of 9.9% and Bangladesh with 67 tenders and a share of 5.7% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 952 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 234 and the Philippines with 226 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q3 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 263 tenders and a 63.2% share, followed by thermal with 104 tenders and a 25% share and hydro with 34 tenders and an 8.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power tenders activity during Q3 2020, with 421 tenders, followed by T&D Project (383) and Power Plant (261).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 479 tenders and a 40.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 420 tenders and a 35.6% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 221 tenders and an 18.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 52 tenders and a 4.4% share
  5. Electricity Supply: five tenders and a 0.4% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 0.3% share.

Power tenders in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. NSW Coalition State Government: 8,000MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,190MW from four tenders
  3. NTPC (India): 1,121.23MW capacity from four tenders.
