Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in Q4 2019: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in Q4 2019 with 1,078 tenders and a share of 58.7%, up 4.2% over the previous quarter and up 12% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by the Philippines with 309 tenders and a share of 16.8% and Bangladesh with 184 tenders and a share of 10% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, India held the top spot with 961 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 303 and the Philippines with 247 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in Q4 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 282 tenders and a 53.3% share, followed by solar with 191 tenders and a 36.1% share and hydro with 42 tenders and a 7.9% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in Asia-Pacific power tenders activity during Q4 2019, with 991 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (335) and Generation Equipment (277).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 919 tenders and a 50% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 515 tenders and a 28% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 358 tenders and a 19.5% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 29 tenders and a 1.6% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: ten tenders and a 0.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: seven tenders and a 0.4% share.

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,000MW from four tenders
  2. NTPC (India): 2,614.16MW from ten tenders
  3. JSC Uzbekenergo (Uzbekistan): 900MW capacity from one tender.
