Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 24% in November 2021

There were 38 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in November 2021, marking a drop of 24% over the last 12-month average of 50, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in November 2021 with 38 contracts and a 32.8% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 29 contracts and a 25% share and Generation Equipment with 26 contracts and a 22.4% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 27 contracts and a 71.1% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 15.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 7.9% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 5.3% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in November 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 29 contracts with a 74.4% share, followed by biopower with three contracts and a 7.7% share and wind with three contracts and a 7.7% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in November 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Huadian Yunnan Power Generation (China), Punjab State Power (India) and Yugan County Guoneng New Energy (China): 100MW from one contract
  2. SJVN (India): 75MW from one contract
  3. Shandong Energy Group (China): 51MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 886.19MW from five contracts
  2. Sinohydro Engineering Bureau (China): 300MW from two contracts
  3. SJVN (India), SEPCO Electric Power Construction (China), Shandong Yijian Construction (China), Sinohydro Bureau one (China) and Hebei Engineering (China): 100MW capacity from one contract.
