Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 32% in September 2021

There were 34 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in September 2021, marking a drop of 32% over the last 12-month average of 50, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in September 2021 with 34 contracts and a 35.4% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 25 contracts and a 26% share and Generation Equipment with 24 contracts and a 25% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 24 contracts and a 70.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: five contracts and a 14.7% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: five contracts and a 14.7% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in September 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 14 contracts with a 41.2% share, followed by wind with 13 contracts and a 38.2% share and thermal with four contracts and an 11.8% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in September 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW from five contracts
  2. Sun Ba Power (Taiwan): 1,100MW from one contract
  3. Jingneng (Yantai Qixia) Photovoltaic Power (China): 112MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. CTCI (Taiwan) and Siemens Energy (Germany): 1,100MW from one contract
  2. PowerChina Hubei Engineering (China): 1,000MW from one contract
  3. Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen (India): 450MW capacity from one contract.
