Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 8% in Q3 2021

There were 135 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2021, marking a drop of 8% over the last four-quarter average of 146, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2021 with 135 contracts and a 34.6% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 94 contracts and a 24.1% share and Generation Equipment with 84 contracts and a 21.5% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 95 contracts and a 70.4% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 21 contracts and a 15.6% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 14 contracts and a 10.4% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 3.7% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q3 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 78 contracts with a 54.5% share, followed by wind with 37 contracts and a 25.9% share and thermal with 13 contracts and a 9.1% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Akimat of Mangystau Region: 30,000MW from one contract
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,400MW from nine contracts
  3. Badan Pengusahaan Batam: 2,200MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Svevind (Sweden): 30,000MW from one contract
  2. Sunseap Group (Singapore): 2,206.51MW from five contracts
  3. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 2,087.64MW capacity from six contracts.
