Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity up 11% in Q4 2021

There were 167 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2021, marking a rise of 11% over the last four-quarter average of 150, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2021 with 167 contracts and a 43.4% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 70 contracts and an 18.2% share and Generation Equipment with 67 contracts and a 17.4% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 130 contracts and a 77.8% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 16 contracts and a 9.6% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 16 contracts and a 9.6% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 3% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q4 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 116 contracts with a 67.1% share, followed by wind with 20 contracts and an 11.6% share and biopower with 12 contracts and a 6.9% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,885MW from seven contracts
  2. Energy Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region: 1,550MW from one contract
  3. Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan): 1,000MW capacity from one contract.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q4 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 5,442.54MW from 22 contracts
  2. Guangxi Power Generation (China): 1,550MW from one contract
  3. Total Eren (France): 1,000MW capacity from one contract.
