Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 43% in April 2021

There were 26 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in April 2021, marking a drop of 43% over the last 12-month average of 46, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in April 2021 with 26 contracts and a 39.4% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 17 contracts and a 25.8% share and Generation Equipment with 16 contracts and a 24.2% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 20 contracts and a 76.9% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: five contracts and a 19.2% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 3.8% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in April 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 11 contracts with a 42.3% share, followed by thermal with ten contracts and a 38.5% share and wind with three contracts and an 11.5% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in April 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. State Power Investment (China) and Yuneng Group: 1,320MW from one contract
  2. Baosteel (China): 270MW from one contract
  3. Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade: 200MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 2,610MW from five contracts
  2. Shanghai Electric Power Construction (China): 2,000MW from one contract
  3. SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction (China): 1,320MW capacity from one contract.
