Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 12% in February 2021

There were 36 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in February 2021, marking a drop of 12% over the last 12-month average of 41, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in February 2021 with 36 contracts and a 33% share, followed by Electricity Procurement with 26 contracts and a 23.9% share and Generation Equipment with 24 contracts and a 22% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 26 contracts and a 72.2% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 16.7% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: three contracts and an 8.3% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 2.8% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in February 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 23 contracts with a 62.2% share, followed by wind with seven contracts and an 18.9% share and thermal with three contracts and an 8.1% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in February 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Andhra Pradesh Green Energy (India): 6,400MW from 12 contracts
  2. Nuclear Power Corporation of India (India): 2,000MW from one contract
  3. Ministry of Energy and Mines, Laos (Laos): 1,800MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Adani Renewable Energy Holding Twelve (India): 3,000MW from five contracts
  2. Larsen & Toubro (India): 2,400MW from two contracts
  3. Shirdi Sai Electricals (India): 2,200MW capacity from four contracts.
