Generation Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in March 2020 with 39 contracts and a 37.1% share, followed by Power Plant with 34 contracts and a 32.4% share and Electricity Procurement with 14 contracts and a 13.3% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 25 contracts and a 73.5% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: seven contracts and a 20.6% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 5.9% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in March 2020

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 14 contracts with a 41.2% share, followed by wind with eight contracts and a 23.5% share and thermal with five contracts and a 14.7% share.

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. JERA (Japan): 1,950MW from one contract
  2. Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 1,500MW from one contract
  3. Philippines Department of Energy (Philippines): 1,100MW capacity from two contracts.
