Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 21% in May 2021

There were 37 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in May 2021, marking a drop of 21% over the last 12-month average of 47, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in May 2021 with 37 contracts and a 45.1% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 21 contracts and a 25.6% share and Electricity Procurement with 11 contracts and a 13.4% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 21 contracts and a 56.8% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: nine contracts and a 24.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 10.8% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: three contracts and an 8.1% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in May 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 17 contracts with a 45.9% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 27% share and biopower with four contracts and a 10.8% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in May 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. State Power Investment (China): 7,200MW from one contract
  2. Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 1,940MW from two contracts
  3. Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Pakistan): 1,530MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology (China): 7,200MW from one contract
  2. Power Construction Corporation of China (China): 1,530MW from one contract
  3. ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 1,500MW capacity from one contract.
