Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 16% in Q2 2021

There were 116 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q2 2021, marking a drop of 16% over the last four-quarter average of 138, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q2 2021 with 116 contracts and a 38.3% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 80 contracts and a 26.4% share and Electricity Procurement with 48 contracts and a 15.8% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 80 contracts and a 69% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 25 contracts and a 21.6% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 5.2% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and a 4.3% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q2 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 51 contracts with a 42.9% share, followed by wind with 33 contracts and a 27.7% share and thermal with 18 contracts and a 15.1% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. State Power Investment (China): 7,200MW from one contract
  2. Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan): 3,897MW from four contracts
  3. Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Pakistan): 1,530MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology (China): 7,200MW from one contract
  2. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 3,940MW from ten contracts
  3. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 2,397MW capacity from three contracts.
