Asia-Pacific power plant contracts activity down 3% in Q4 2020

There were 110 power plant contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2020, marking a drop of 3% over the last four-quarter average of 113, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2020 with 110 contracts and a 35.7% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 100 contracts and a 32.5% share and Electricity Procurement with 37 contracts and a 12% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 81 contracts and a 73.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 13 contracts and an 11.8% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 13 contracts and an 11.8% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.7% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q4 2020

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 51 contracts with a 44.7% share, followed by wind with 23 contracts and a 20.2% share and thermal with 15 contracts and a 13.2% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Korea Western Power (South Korea): 728MW from one contract
  2. Mapanuepe Hydropower: 500MW from one contract
  3. Neoen (France): 460MW capacity from one contract.

Asia-Pacific power plant contracts in Q4 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 1,497.8MW from five contracts
  2. East China Electric Power Design Institute (China), Anhui No.1 Electric Power Construction (China) and Anhui No.2 Electric Power Engineering & Construction (China): 1,320MW from one contract
  3. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (South Korea): 1,144MW capacity from three contracts.
