Asia-Pacific power plant tenders activity down 81% in Q1 2022

There were 23 power plant tenders announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2022, marking a drop of 81% over the last four-quarter average of 124, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2022 with 79 tenders and a 49.7% share, followed by T&D Project with 36 tenders and a 22.6% share and Power Plant with 23 tenders and a 14.5% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 19 tenders and an 82.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 13% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one tender and a 4.3% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific power plant tenders in Q1 2022

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 22 tenders with an 84.6% share, followed by hydro with two tenders and a 7.7% share and biopower with one tender and a 3.8% share.

Asia-Pacific power plant tenders in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Philippines Department of Energy (Philippines) and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam: 2,000MW from one tender
  2. Germany Trade And Invest (Germany): 117.38MW from two tenders
  3. Telangana State Renewable Energy Development (India): 50MW capacity from one tender.
