Asia-Pacific T&D project contracts activity up 60% in Q1 2022

There were 64 T&D project contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2022, marking a rise of 60% over the last four-quarter average of 40, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q1 2022 with 120 contracts and a 37.2% share, followed by T&D Project with 64 contracts and a 19.8% share and Generation Equipment with 60 contracts and an 18.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 36 contracts and a 56.3% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 26 contracts and a 40.6% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.6% share
  4. Supply & Erection: one contract and a 1.6% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific T&D project contracts in Q1 2022

Looking at T&D project contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 14 contracts with a 46.7% share, followed by wind with 12 contracts and a 40% share and thermal with three contracts and a 10% share.

Asia-Pacific T&D project contracts in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of T&D project contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Shandong Energy Group (China): 500MW from one contract
  2. Shaanxi Ganquan Chaiguanshan Wind Power: 100MW from one contract
  3. APA Group (Australia): 88MW capacity from one contract.

Asia-Pacific T&D project contracts in Q1 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 635.6MW from four contracts
  2. PowerChina Zhongnan Engineering (China) and SEPCO Electric Power Construction (China): 500MW from one contract
  3. PowerChina Nuclear Engineering (China): 400MW capacity from two contracts.
