AT&T-Bloom Boxes Phase 1 Fuel Cell Systems, US

By Carmen

The AT&T-Bloom Boxes Phase 1 Fuel Cell Systems is a 7,500kW energy storage project located in California, US.

The electro-chemical battery energy storage project uses fuel cells as its storage technology. The project was announced in 2011.

Description

The AT&T-Bloom Boxes Phase 1 Fuel Cell Systems is owned by AT&T (100%).

The key applications of the project are on-site power and back up.

Contractors involved

AT&T is the owner. Bloom Energy is the technology provider for the project.

Additional information

Once fully operational these Bloom Boxes are expected to produce over 62 million kWh of energy annually—enough to power over 5,600 homes per year. The Bloom Energy installations will be deployed at 11 AT&T facilities in California including: Corona, Fontana, Hayward, Pasadena, Redwood City, Rialto, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Jose, and San Ramon.
Bloom Boxes contain stacked fuel cells and will convert air and natural gas into electricity through a clean electrochemical process. The high efficiency of the Boxes will help AT&T avoid approximately 250 million pounds of CO2 emissions, equivalent to removing over 3700 cars from the road.
