Installed alongside hydroelectric, wind and geothermal energy resources the battery storage system will perform frequency regulation and voltage control for the grid, provide spinning reserve and store surplus renewable energy.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Fluence have been awarded a contract by the Portuguese energy provider EDA – Electricidade dos Açores to build a battery-based energy storage system on Terceira.
