China Huadian Chittagong Power Plant, Bangladesh

The China Huadian Chittagong Power Plant is 1,320MW coal fired power project. It is planned in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in multiple phases. The project construction is likely to commence in 2025 and is expected to enter into commercial operation in December 2027.

Description

The project is being developed and currently owned by Bangladesh Power Development Board and China Huadian Hong Kong. The owners have 50% stake in the project respectively.

It is a steam turbine power plant.

The project cost is expected to be around $2,000m.

The project construction is expected to commence from 2025. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by December 2027.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project will be sold to Bangladesh Power Development Board under a power purchase agreement for a period of 25 years.

Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) is an integrated electric utility. It generates using gas, furnace oil, diesel, hydro, coal and solar; and imports power from India. The company operates independent power plants/SIPP, rental power plant and REB using steam turbine, gas turbine, combined cycle, reciprocating engine, hydro and solar PV technologies. BPDB sells electricity on wholesale basis to distribution utilities, Dhaka Power Distribution Company, West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited, Dhaka Electric Supply Company, Rural Electrification Board and Northern Electricity Supply Company Ltd. It also retails energy in Chattogram, Cumilla, Mymensing and Sylhet distribution zones. BPDC is headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
