Electricity procurement contracts in September 2021 saw 69 contracts announced, marking a drop of 34% over the last 12-month average of 105, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 58 contracts and an 84.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 10.1% share
  3. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 5.8% share.

Asia-Pacific leads electricity procurement activity in September 2021

Comparing contracts activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 25 contracts and a share of 36.2% during September 2021, followed by North America with 20 contracts and a 29% share and Europe with 16 contracts and a 23.2% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement contracts in September 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 34 contracts with a 47.2% share, followed by wind with 29 contracts and a 40.3% share and thermal with three contracts and a 4.2% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,440MW from ten contracts
  2. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution (India): 1,000MW from one contract
  3. Salt River Project (United States): 400MW capacity from one contract.

Electricity procurement contracts in September 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,000MW from one contract
  2. Clenera (United States): 520MW from two contracts
  3. Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen (India) and JSW Renew Energy (India): 450MW capacity from one contract.
