Electricity procurement tenders in Q3 2020 saw 42 tenders announced, marking a drop of 28% over the last four-quarter average of 58, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 20 tenders and a 47.6% share
  2. Electricity Supply: 19 tenders and a 45.2% share
  3. Project Implementation: three tenders and a 7.1% share.

Europe leads electricity procurement activity in Q3 2020

Comparing tenders activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 14 tenders and a share of 33.3% during Q3 2020, followed by North America with ten tenders and a 23.8% share and Asia-Pacific with ten tenders and a 23.8% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement tenders in Q3 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 22 tenders with a 41.5% share, followed by wind with 16 tenders and a 30.2% share and hydro with six tenders and an 11.3% share.

Electricity procurement tenders in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. National Energy Regulator of South Africa (South Africa): 12,000MW from one tender
  2. PacifiCorp (United States): 4,300MW from one tender
  3. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States): 4,000MW capacity from one tender.
