Electricity procurement tenders down 30% in Q3 2021

Electricity procurement tenders in Q3 2021 saw 30 tenders announced, marking a drop of 30% over the last four-quarter average of 43, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 18 tenders and a 60% share
  2. Electricity Supply: nine tenders and a 30% share
  3. Project Implementation: three tenders and a 10% share.

North America leads electricity procurement activity in Q3 2021

Comparing tenders activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with ten tenders and a share of 33.3% during Q3 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with seven tenders and a 23.3% share and Europe with five tenders and a 16.7% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement tenders in Q3 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 19 tenders with a 50% share, followed by wind with ten tenders and a 26.3% share and thermal with three tenders and a 7.9% share.

Electricity procurement tenders in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Public Service Company of Oklahoma (United States): 3,950MW from two tenders
  2. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 3,300MW from one tender
  3. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India): 1,287MW capacity from three tenders.
