Energy storage tenders down 43% in Q3 2019

Energy storage tenders in Q3 2019 saw 41 tenders announced, marking a drop of 43% over the last four-quarter average of 72, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 21 tenders and a 51.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 11 tenders and a 26.8% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: five tenders and a 12.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 7.3% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one tender and a 2.4% share.

North America leads energy storage activity in Q3 2019

Comparing tenders activity in energy storage segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 23 tenders and a share of 56.1% during Q3 2019, followed by Asia-Pacific with nine tenders and a 22% share and Middle East and Africa with six tenders and a 14.6% share.

Solar is leading technology for energy storage tenders in Q3 2019

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 19 tenders with a 45.2% share, followed by wind with six tenders and a 14.3% share and thermal with four tenders and a 9.5% share.

Energy storage tenders in Q3 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200.02MW from two tenders
  2. Ministere de la transition ecologique et solidaire (France): 282MW from one tender
  3. ACT Government (Australia): 250MW capacity from one tender.
