Energy storage tenders in September 2020 saw 23 tenders announced, marking a rise of 10% over the last 12-month average of 21, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: ten tenders and a 43.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 39.1% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and an 8.7% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and an 8.7% share.

North America leads energy storage activity in September 2020

Comparing tenders activity in energy storage segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with ten tenders and a share of 43.5% during September 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with six tenders and a 26.1% share and Middle East and Africa with four tenders and a 17.4% share.

Solar is leading technology for energy storage tenders in September 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for ten tenders with a 62.5% share, followed by wind with three tenders and an 18.8% share and thermal with two tenders and a 12.5% share.

Energy storage tenders in September 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. National Energy Regulator of South Africa (South Africa): 12,000MW from one tender
  2. IFC Advisory: 500MW from one tender
  3. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 100MW capacity from one tender.
