Energy storage tenders down 55% in Q1 2022

Energy storage tenders in Q1 2022 saw 33 tenders announced, marking a drop of 55% over the last four-quarter average of 74, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 22 tenders and a 66.7% share
  2. Project Implementation: eight tenders and a 24.2% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 6.1% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 3% share.

North America leads energy storage activity in Q1 2022

Comparing tenders activity in energy storage segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 26 tenders and a share of 78.8% during Q1 2022, followed by South and Central America with three tenders and a 9.1% share and Asia-Pacific with two tenders and a 6.1% share.

Solar is leading technology for energy storage tenders in Q1 2022

Among the technologies, solar accounted for nine tenders with a 75% share, followed by wind with two tenders and a 16.7% share and thermal with one tender and an 8.3% share.

Energy storage tenders in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Indiana Michigan Power (United States): 1,300MW from one tender
  2. Appalachian Power (United States): 1,100MW from one tender
  3. NTPC Renewable Energy (India): 500MW capacity from one tender.
