Energy storage tenders up 6% in Q4 2021

Energy storage tenders in Q4 2021 saw 76 tenders announced, marking a rise of 6% over the last four-quarter average of 72, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 50 tenders and a 65.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: 20 tenders and a 26.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two tenders and a 2.6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 2.6% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 2.6% share.

North America leads energy storage activity in Q4 2021

Comparing tenders activity in energy storage segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 53 tenders and a share of 69.7% during Q4 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with ten tenders and a 13.2% share and Asia-Pacific with seven tenders and a 9.2% share.

Solar is leading technology for energy storage tenders in Q4 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 21 tenders with an 80.8% share, followed by wind with two tenders and a 7.7% share and thermal with one tender and a 3.8% share.

Energy storage tenders in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Georgia Power (United States): 1,030MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 500MW from one tender
  3. Guyana Power & Light (Guyana): 33MW capacity from one tender.
